ALT-711 (Alagebrium Chloride)
Identity ALT-711 (alagebrium chloride) is a synthetic thiazolium compound and a member of the Advanced Glycation End-product (AGE) breaker class. It is studied for its ability to cleave AGE crosslinks in modified proteins.
| Chemical name | 4,5-dimethyl-3-(2-oxo-2-phenylethyl)-1,3-thiazol-3-ium chloride |
| CAS | 341028-37-3 |
| Molecular formula | C₁₃H₁₄ClNOS |
| Molecular weight | 267.77 g/mol |
| Class | Thiazolium compound; AGE breaker |
| Appearance | Solid powder |
| Purity | ≥98% by third-party HPLC, per lot |
| Storage | −20 °C, dry, amber vial, tightly sealed. See lot COA. |
Mechanism ALT-711 contains a thiazolium ring that cleaves the α-dicarbonyl crosslinks characteristic of advanced glycation end-products. The electrophilic thiazolium center reacts with the carbon–carbon bonds of these crosslinks, breaking them and releasing the previously crosslinked protein structures. This reactivity is the basis of its use as a research tool for studying AGE-crosslinked proteins in cell-free systems. Research applications
- AGE crosslink cleavage in cell-free protein systems
- Reaction-kinetics studies (spectroscopic monitoring)
- Product analysis and protein-fragment identification
- Compound stability and degradation studies
Handling and storage −20 °C for long-term storage. Amber vial, tightly sealed, protected from light. See lot COA.
